It's an undeniably secure mount, but the extent to which the tabs extend proud of both the bracket and the plate, and the absence of screw holes at the top, make adding a frame to provide a finished edge to the plate impossible. Unfortunately, the bracket holds the plate by using two screws to secure the lower edge of the plate while the top edge slides under a pair of tabs molded into the plastic. They provide a full bracket that's custom-molded to the front bumper's profile and you just screw right through that sucker. And while I suppose the "pilot" dimples Ford provides are both helpful and a low impact way for Ford to preserve capital, it would have been nice if, in deference to the many states without a front plate requirement, Ford would have found a way without designing the permanent dimples into the bumper itself.Ĭonversely, the Lincoln MKS has no such dimples, nor does it have any sort of integral mount. However, last week, in the Fort Worth Star-Telegram, a 'watchdog' editorial writer asked the public to submit their 'pet peeves' and he would check into the ones he thought would be of.
I've searched high and low and there seems to be no vehicle-specific bracket for the Flex, OEM or otherwise. Texas is a front license plate required state, but the law is widely ignored. It seems that the Ford engineers out-clevered everyone by making a front license plate bracket out of the entire bumper.
